Zu diesem Zweck wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Wirtschaftswachstum und Arbeitslosigkeit herausgearbeitet. Anschließend soll die Entwicklung der Arbeitsmärkte bis zur Wirtschaftskrise 2008 anhand von einigen ausgewählten Beispielen dargestellt und die bisherigen Arbeitsmarktreformen aufgezeigt werden. Der Hauptteil der Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Folgen des Wirtschaftseinbruchs 2008/2009 für die Arbeitslosigkeit in Europa. Hier soll gezeigt werden, warum manche Länder trotz der Krise keine höheren Arbeitslosenzahlen zu verzeichnen hatten und warum in einigen Ländern die Arbeitslosigkeit besonders stark zugenommen hat.
