Aufgrund dessen sind Maßnahmen zur Reduktion des Energieverbrauches sowie zur Erhaltung der Umwelt von besonderem Interesse für diesen Wirtschaftszweig. Auch stellen die Kosten einen nicht zu vernachlässigenden Faktor dar, insbesondere im Angesicht ständig steigender Energie-preise. In der Hotellerie wirkt sich der Energieaufwand besonders stark auf das Betriebsergebnis aus, da die Kosten für Energie bei durchschnittlich 6 % des Umsatzes liegen. Die Energieagentur Mittelfranken hat zudem den mittleren Strombedarf eines Hotelbetriebes, bezogen auf ein Doppelzimmer, ermittelt. Dieser beträgt ca. 3.700 kWh professional Jahr, used to be dem Stromverbrauch einer four- bis 5-köpfigen Familie in einem Einfamilienhaus entspricht. Dem Freizeitangebot an Bord und den organisierten Landausflügen, die innerhalb kurzer Zeit und zu hohem Preis eine Erkundung der Zielregion versprechen, sind in ihrer Vielfalt dabei keine Grenzen gesetzt.
Gleichzeitig führt kein Weg mehr an dem Thema Nachhaltigkeit vorbei, sei es bei Lebensmitteln, Bekleidung oder auch zunehmend bei Reisen. Nachhaltigkeit hat sich heute zu einem gesellschaftlichen pattern entwickelt. Beim Kreuzfahrttourismus überwogen bisher die negativen Schlagzeilen hinsichtlich der Nachhaltigkeit. So wurde der Umweltbelastung durch Kreuzfahrtschiffe durch die Verleihung des „Dinosaurier des Jahres 2011“ durch den Naturschutzbund Deutschland an die Reedereien AIDA und TUI Cruises ein Gesicht verliehen (vgl. Behling, 2011: 7). Folglich stellt eine langfristige nachhaltige Entwicklung bei Kreuzfahrten vor dem Hintergrund der ökologischen Auswirkungen und des oftmals als negativ eingestuften soziokulturellen Einflusses auf die Zielregion eine große Herausforderung dar (vgl. auch im Folgenden Lighthouse starting place, o. J.). confident wirtschaftliche Effekte des Kreuzfahrttourismus sind zudem gerade in unterentwickelten Zielregionen fraglich. Somit entsteht ein Spannungsfeld zwischen dem Nachhaltigkeitstrend und dem boomenden Wirtschaftsfaktor „Kreuzfahrttourismus“.

Hauptziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Erstellung eines allgemeinen Konzeptes für nachhaltige Landausflüge mit universellem Geltungsanspruch, welches für die Reederei AIDA Cruises und die vacation spot Kiel veranschaulicht wird.
