The innovations of Palmieri, the Gonzalez brothers and others, led to an Afro-Cuban jazz Renaissance in New York City, and eventually, worldwide, during the 1980s. Alternative radio stations, and record labels sprang up, seemingly overnight, to spread this new sound to the public. He had the picture taken and sent to me via email.
