When shopping for a beginning saxophone, look for a saxophone with a carrying case that is roomy enough to hold the instrument, extra reeds, cleaning swabs and a neck strap. This instrument dates to the early 1950s and is in fabulous vintage condition. The rotary valve must be oiled prior to assembly of the trombone. • Remove the complete hand slide assembly and place it on a clean, even surface. • Hold bell section with the bell pointed up. • Place a few drops of Yamaha rotor oil (YAC 1002P) into the slide receiver. • Depress lever to activate the rotary valve, spreading the oil evenly on the rotor and casing. • Apply a few drops of Yamaha rotor spindle oil (YAC 1013P) to the rotor stem, directly between the stop arm and the top of the casing. • Carefully remove valve cap and apply a few drops of rotor spindle oil to the bearings.

The adjustment of intonation is most often accomplished with a tuning slide that is a short slide between the neckpipe and the bell incorporating the bell bow (U-bend); this device was designed by the French maker François Riedlocker during the early 19th century and applied to French and British designs and later in the century to German and American models, though German trombones were built without tuning slides well into the 20th century http://thecloudworks.com/?library/der-zigeunerbaron-act-i-entre-couplet-als-flotter-geist-trombone-2-part-qty-7-a-3024.
This instrument is incredible in almost every way. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is unparalleled and the design is totally unique and inspiring. I am so impressed that a bass trombone that is as lightweight as this one is able to get such a wide variety of colors and timbres without having the sound distort or be degraded ref.: http://www.asiatoyz.com/?books/il-trovatore-act-ii-scena-ed-aria-azucenaa-narrative-condotta-ellera-in-ceppi-trombone-3

When the Bethlehem congregation was furnished with a second set of trombones, we have not yet learned, certainly, however, prior to the year 1793; for on the 2d of December, 1792, when intelligence reached Bethlehem that Bishop Spangenberg had departed this life at Berthelsdorf, on the 18th of September last, the death of the venerable father was announced from the flat-roof of the Single Brethren's House, by two quartettes of trombonists , e.g. http://nickgrantham.com/freebooks/the-rite-of-spring-trombone-3-part-a-2138

. By the end of the century, the trombone was also adopted for New Orleans jazz and ragtime music. Pop orchestras, which performed at dance halls, often featured trombones playing the melody, too. Dixieland jazz of the 1910s relied heavily on improvised trombone melodies, and by the 1930s, a four-trombone section was standard in big bands http://www.honeytreedaycare.org/?books/caucasian-sketches-suite-no-1-op-10-trombone-1-part-qty-2-a-1597

This model is one of the best and most classic sounding bass trombones out there. I love that they have a warm vibrancy with that old school compact articulation, a characteristic that is really prominent with these older Bach basses , source: http://schoolbustobaja.com/?freebooks/the-trombone-virtuoso-an-advanced-method-by-simone-mantia-2012-05-10

. Most B♭/F tenor and bass trombones include a tuning slide long enough to lower the pitch to E with the valve tubing engaged, enabling the production of B2. Whereas older instruments fitted with valve attachments usually had the tubing coiled rather tightly in the bell section (closed wrap or traditional wrap), modern instruments usually have the tubing kept as free as possible of tight bends in the tubing (open wrap), resulting in a freer response with the valve attachment tubing engaged http://nickgrantham.com/freebooks/the-gondoliers-act-ii-chorus-dance-a-cachuca-trombone-1-2-and-3-parts-qty-2-each-a-3733

. You can buy these devices, but I prefer to use an app on my phone, for which I've found Cleartune to be my favourite. It is available for both Android and Apple. It is really easy to use, and has a few advantages for brass players including: (a) the ability to choose "Equal Temperament" (piano tuning) or "Standard Just Intonation" (which produces the in-tune sound, free of beats, used by brass groups, strings, etc) (b) the ability to change the Tuning Root; so for example, you can set the Root to "D" so that the notes on a D trumpet appear as you would read them (so written C for Trumpet in D music appears as a C on the app) ref.: http://nickgrantham.com/freebooks/der-rosenkavalier-opera-op-59-trombone-2-part-a-6177
