Programm Design - The Solution

I got a D in GCSE maths and my brain still melts when I'm faced with a bunch of numbers, but I can do some simple maths and I know that

5 + 4 = 9

Simple

Often S&C coaches want to know 'THE ANSWER'. This is partcilularly true when it comes to writing training programmes. What's the best way to write a programme? I need to know 'THE ANSWER' When an S&C coach asks me what methods I use to improve strength, they want to know 'THE ANSWER'. How long should I taper my athlete? They want to know 'THE ANSWER'. What recoery strategy is going to provide the quickest improvement after a game? They want to know 'THE ANSWER'.

The problem is that here isn't a definitive answer to any questions relating to programme design. It's not black and white, it's very grey! You have to understand the fundamental principles and then figure out the most effective strategy yourself, because even with a D in GSCE maths I know that...

 5 + 4 = 9

but so does

3 + 3 + 3 = 9

15 - 6 = 9

7 + 2 = 9

3 x 3 = 9

Anyone that tells you there is a definitive answer is telling porky pies. There are many ways to achieve the same outcome.

Once you become comfortable with that, you'll be fine!
