Don't Rely On Toys

A couple of weeks ago I received an e-mail from a strength and conditioning coach asking me for some advice. He wanted to know which pieces of kit he should purchase to enhance his delivery as a coach.

Here's what I told him:

"spend your money on professional development, forget about the toys"

Lots of coaches fall into the trap of hiding behind the latest gizmo or gadget and forget that they are worthless if the person behind the gadget can't coach!

All coaches should budget a proportion of their earnings to professional development. Start investing in yourself as a coach, buy books, DVD's and training manuals. Attend conferences and certifications. Spend you hard earned cash on travel so that you can visit the best coaches in the profession and spend time learning from them. Don't fritter it away on fancy pieces of kit to hide behind.

Do you agree or do you think I'm talking a load of old rubbish - let me know!
