Back in 2012 I wrote a blog post based on a keynote lecture I attended at the UKSCA National conference. Frans Bosch said 'a coach is no better than a measuring tape' (you can read the original post here).
That keynote set me off on a path to look at different coaching styles and the most effective coaching cues to use. One area that has gained popularity in recent years is the use of external coaching cues.
Here's a paper looking at the impact of 'internal' or 'external' coaching cues in sprinting performance.
I know the paper looks at low skilled sprinters and you may be reading this thinking 'I work with top football/rugby/cricket/hockey players'. Well, I've worked with lots of 'high performance' players and they weren't all 'high performance' sprinters!
It's probably still worth taking some time to review this article!
