When it's getting tough, the easiest thing to do is quit. It doesn't matter what the project is; as Damian Hughes would say, there will always be 'the messy middle. The point when it all starts to get a bit too much. The next time you're thinking of getting out of the saddle, sit tight.

What was the last book you read? I asked this question at a career development workshop I delivered several years ago. The attendees wanted to kick start their careers in a highly competitive job market, so I was shocked when a number of them admitted that they hadn't read a book related to their careers for several years. They had stopped reading the minute they left university. But, of course, education doesn't stop when you leave school or university. It's a lifelong pursuit, and we should be learning all the time.
