How often do you change where you stand? Spend time evaluating the landscape from the perspective of the coaches, athletes and colleagues you work with to understand their point of view.

A lot goes on in high-performance sports environments that will be way out of your control, from minor schedule changes that mess up your carefully planned session to last-minute losses that redefine your whole career pathway. How you handle yourself when faced with either minor inconveniences or significant upheavals will define how much you enjoy the ride and how successfully you navigate the world of performance sport.

I paid very little attention to many of the technological innovations available to me as a coach early in my career. If I'm honest, it was because there was a lot of stuff that I just didn't understand or was ready to learn about. But, as I've developed as a coach, I've embraced aspects of my role that don't come easily to me. I'll never class myself as an expert, but the willingness to tackle the complex stuff is there. Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks!
